Music Magazines Struggle as Ad Dollars Disappear

Small music magazines are strugglingto survive as the music industry collapses. The publishers of No Depression magazine announced they’ll quit publishing this summer due to a steep decline in advertising by record labels. Other casualties include Resonance and CCM. Listen here.

Play Delves Inside Mind of ‘Goon Show’ Writer

Though “The Goon Show” aired on the BBC during the 1950s, you can still hear reruns on the air across most of the English-speaking world. It inspired everyone form the Beatles to Monty Python. But for its chief writer Spike Milligan, the Goon Show was anything but a joke. His struggles are the subject of a new play, which opened this week in Philadelphia after a successful run across the pond. Listen here.

A Year Out, Digital TV Picture Still Far from Sharp

In just over a year, millions of Americans could sit down, flip on their televisions, and find nothing to watch…. literally. That’s the fear of some consumer advocates. And it’s a fear they say industry may be promoting to make Americans spend more money than they have to preparing for the transition to digital television. Critics say the government – and in particular, the Federal Communications Commission – should be doing more to make sure Americans know what’s coming. Listen here.
